Privacy and Cookies

We don't ask for your name, email or account details, and we don't sell data. Our own scripts save two small settings in your browser. When adverts are switched on, the advertising network (Google AdSense) may use cookies, and visitors in the UK, the European Economic Area and Switzerland are asked for consent first.

What We Collect

  • No accounts or forms. You can read every page without giving us any personal details.
  • Server logs. Like almost every website, our web server keeps standard access logs (IP address, the page requested, date and time, browser type) for security and to keep the site running. We don't use them to identify you.
  • Fonts are hosted by us. We don't load fonts from Google or any other font service.

What Our Own Scripts Store in Your Browser

These settings use your browser's local storage, stay on your device and are never sent to us:

  • amz_store_choice: the Amazon country store you picked with the "Change" button, so the shop buttons keep opening that store. Without it, we pick a store from your device's time zone and language, on your device, with no location lookup.
  • site_theme and disclosure_collapsed (shop pages only): the color theme you chose and whether you folded away the affiliate note.

You can clear them at any time by clearing this site's data in your browser settings.

When You Click Through to Amazon

Our shop buttons open a search on your own country's Amazon store, with our associate tag in the address so Amazon can credit us for qualifying purchases. Once you are on Amazon, Amazon's own privacy notice and cookie policy apply. We can't see who you are or what you look at on Amazon. Amazon's reports to us list which products were ordered and the commission earned, without any customer details.

Adverts from Third Parties

Some pages carry adverts from a third-party network, currently planned to be Google AdSense. Adverts load only after the page has finished loading. The network and its partners may use cookies or similar technology to show adverts, to limit how often you see them and to measure them, and may personalize adverts where the law and your choices allow.

  • UK, European Economic Area and Switzerland: when adverts are switched on, you will see a consent message before any advertising cookies are used, and you can change your choice later from the same message.
  • Everywhere: Google explains how it uses information from sites that show its adverts at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, including how to turn off personalized adverts.

If you use an ad blocker, the advert spaces simply stay empty.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, data protection law (for example the UK GDPR, the EU GDPR or US state privacy laws) may give you rights to ask what personal data a site holds about you and to have it deleted. Because we hold so little, most requests are simple: contact us and we will answer.
